typist

jim i was a company clerk typist at fort ord in the armay with my national guard unit....after 8 weeks of arduous training, crawling under barbed wire with machine gun fire going over my head, and doing kp on my birthday because i had such a loverly top seargent, i typed orders for all 23 of my grunts to viet nam, and i i know the army had intentions of them going to the fron't because on the order i typed in place of destination, combat front....it killed me everytime i typed the name and combat front...i did not type that for me....i did type up my own orders which said as destination hdq combat engineer howitzer battery tooele utah, back to my unit....i just know some of those gruntsaaaaaaaaaaaa[ a grunt is a very close friend and comrad who you treat like a brother, and you are treated back like a brother} were in combat medina, which had a mortality rate of 75%...i am almost a pacifist now when it comes to these latest wars...god bless to my friends, because you do become friends when you eat, sleep, play, work and train with men for 16 weeks, 8 training and 8 advanced training...and to those like tubby curtis and john austin who did come home and start a family and raise kids, god bless to you too

Good post, Putz. This is another way in which we are alike: I was a Statistical Services Clerk (prepared the morning report, etc.) in the Air Force because of my awesome typing skills, until they turned me into a computer programmer.

Now Mr. Putz, I am getting old and can't remember what all I told you before. Did I tell you about the fellow we graduated as a Clerk Typist who typed with four fingers and two thumbs using both hands?
Forgive me then, if I repeat, but he begged and begged me to turn my back. He said he could type 45 wpm corrected doing that if I would only not watch, JUST ONE TIME. So he passed and went on to be a Morning Report Clerk Typist.

Tales will vary about why a soldier or airman or sailor or marine oR Coast Guardian (got to capitalze them, you know, they are ELITE!) could have an assignment with the typewriter. Most were blessed with their lives, a few were on the front lines or close anyway.
And now witht he SCUDs and similar missles a troop could be hundreds of miles away sleeping in his bed and get killed.
That is the worst of war, people get killed. It isn't just the bad guys either, a lot from both sides get killed.
Perhaps God would have us be Medics and rescue those we can?
..
God bless you, Mr. Putz, I am so glad to see you writing again. YOU HAVE A GREAT TALENT FOR THAT!
One other thing we both learned, is that discretion goes a long way in our surroundings when it comes to what and how we say it here.
