WE WERE IN THE CANYON WHEN THE SALT CREEK FIRE BARELY STARTED....AS WE PASSED THE FIRE ALL OUR WINDOW WERE UP AND AIR CONDITIONIN ON IN THE CAR, BUT WE STILL FELT THE INTENSE HEAT OF THE FIRE WITH THE FLAMES ON THE ROAD SIDE....IT WAS IN FOUR OR FIVE DIFFERENT POCKETS....WE THOUGHT IT WAS A CONTROLLED FIRE UNTIL WE GOT HOME AND EVERYONE TOLD US ABOUT THE ROAD BEING CLOSED

Dad, this was cool. We saw this on CNN. I don't understand, when you went though was this in full force or just started? When you went through was it just small and got bigger after you went through? That is what is sounded like on CNN. It didn't get bigger until after you guys would have passed through.
we must have been the last car through the canyon...the one pocket was about seven feet high and though small in width was very intense already and it was not cool... it was a very scarry deal...we were upset that we couldn't do something about it...the car that started it must have passed us going down the canyon in the opposite direction...of course it grew expencially into a monster no...might even take out some towns...fairview moroni have been evacuated...
