where is duke? i havent seen him before
He's outside of his kennel right now, most of the time like during the day, he's in the yard or in the house, then he sleeps in the kennel at night because he scratches the bedroom door. He's also in there when another dog visits because he doesn't get along with it. Then when we go on trips, Duke's in the kennel, he's usually fine in there when we're gone. That's the story. Mainly 90% of the time, he's outside of the kennel.
.....so don't worry, he's happy.
What a nice shiny enclosure. It looks sufficiently large, so Duke has plenty of leg room. Of course, I'm certain he'd be much happier if someone would stay in there with him. Our animals want to be near to us. The 10 x 10 pen here is total sufficient for mine. Do they like it? No. They want to be right with me. Mine DON'T use the pen except with the door open. The expense for the fenced lot really pinched me but keeps them safe, yet they still would like more room to run - "more" as in total unobstructed space to go where they please. Doing as they please gets one in trouble as you know of Charly - who is very obstinate to do his own thing - got hit by the car. He's okay, a bit subdued, which is good; yet, if given the opportunity, he would be in the highway quickly again. With Choco,the world isn't big enough for his running desires. He just wants to GO, GO and keep going until he is ready to return home. I don't blame him - freedom is exhilarating!
A dog "leash" law is good since it protects the animals from their own ignorance of potential harm. I equate our dogs with our children when small, helpless and ignorant of dangers - we must protect them.
As for arresting you, especially if fine/money was involved, seems just another way for the "Enforcers" to suck buck$ out of citizens
Get Duke a bale of straw - he will show his appreciation for it. There is a Duke in this family too.
I don't live in the wide open spaces of the west, where all the huddled masses, canine and otherwise, yearning to breathe free have ample room to romp and exercise their widdle selves without any annoying shackles like leashes or kennels, but I did grow up in Texas (pretty wide open, spacewise) and had three dogs killed because they loved to chase cars, so I thoroughly agree with and put into practice the wearing of leashes by my canine friends. Not to mention, it keeps them from leaving their deposits anyplace they wish, like on the lawns of one's neighbors who tend to become irate easily, in the more confined and civilized constrictions of a subdivision. One can love dogs without loving their toidy habits if left unchecked.

Hello there! I found you when I was over at the blog, "Taber's Truths." That enclosure looks very nice for your dog! :)
Having a dog wander free is a little like letting your 3 year old wander free, except dogs aren't as smart, can get into much more trouble, cover more ground etc. They could damage property, cause an accident, any animal will fight when instincts take over, might not be a good thing if they wander from yard to yard where small kids are playing. Dogs do well with limits and are happy to live within them and under the rules that are set. The law seems good for everyone, just my 2 cents. Of course it's great when we can get out with our dogs in places where they can run free a bit too, assuming they are still under our control.
It looks like you have a nice piece of property Mr. Putz. You need a giant rose garden- and tomatoes. It looks like you have plenty of full sun spots. Duke's kennel looks very clean.
