not lost for long..post 370

this was a civil air patrol mission when i lived in tooele utah in 1958

we went on a search and rescue mission...this mission was to be out of salt lake but the site of the wreckage and where jerry and i were was in the desert by fillmore but quite a bit more east...we had to paint many parts of our body to simulate blood and lay there in the middle of the desert by the tin of a supposed crashed airplane....we had water, but were dependant on the aircraft out of salt lake to find us before dark...they were to fly in grids back and forth out of the city towards provo and a hundred miles east south north and west of provo to see how far we flew off course.....a blue cessna found us about 3 o clock in the afternoon,,,,we were disappointed a bit, but a navy helecopter picked us up after we had been there all day and were hungry for dinner.....we ate at the sizzler, steak...i rustled for work at andacona smelting...what i mean by rustling was i went up the smelter road with a lunch box in hand and when the personnel boss came out to look to fill in A JOB , all he could see was me and a gung ho spanish guy with a starving family...garcia to the rope gang, barlow to the baghouse...wayland, a one armed fellow who lost his arm in a bag house door, yelled at me to fix the seal on the baghouse door, yelling at me...he tried to help me with that door and my finger was smashed, but my doctor GUBLER was able to pull my finger up and save the nail bed .......moral of the story, stay away from baghouse doors,,,keep your head under a pillow your whole life..god moral, huh///??????

we were practicing finding downed aircraft in the civil air patrol before they died of thrist when they crashed in the mountains, desert, anywhere. or died of their injuries...when the helecopter picked us up they administered fake medical care to us...i had a spint on my leg and jerry a splint on his chest

Important work, practicing search and rescue, Barlow! I'm glad you never experienced a fire close to home...

Ah! Now it makes sense. You just jumped right into the story originally, with no explanation for readers like me from afar who had no idea what you were talking about! (Maybe you have talked before about the civil air patrol and jerry, etc., but I am a new to our blog.)

Anyway, thanks!

Practice sessions are needed to that people can learn what to do... You said, "I was disappointed". At least you were found before the wolves and desert rats got to you.
