called the broken yardstick happened when i attended central jr. high school, i wasn't doing much at all, i was looking at this world globe and trying to get some class attention at the same time, i have always liked my share of the attention....and then all of a sudden i felt a horrible sting on my arm and heard this loud whappp...most teacher's used a ruler, but mr. DEE gowns uses a yard stick, he could break it over your head if he was really mad at youor he whapped you on the arm if he was only mildly miffed over your actions...that same year i won third place at the Tooele County Fair for a pigeon i had found under the bleachers at the football field, i entered the bird with a broken wing with a splint, it was dirty, ugly and weak: that next winter in 1957 the bird died...it won third prize at the fair, which goes to prove that county fairs will give a ribbon to any entry in junior high...i was getting a drink of water from a fountain on the school yardand steve carlise who was right behind me pushed my head down and he chipped my PERMANENT fron't tooth after hitting it on a spigit...i lost my good looksa, never to retain them again which came into account with the failure of my young love stories....we as a group of lads were standing in the middle of the street with a gun that shot blank bullets...WE WOULD WAIT until we saw a car and strart shoving one another around, and all of a sudded the gun would go off...one of the boys dropped to the street in a hump...he would jump up andf run off leaving the witnesses wondering what had happened...these same boys would stand half on one side of the street and half on the other side of the street and when a car would come driving down the street; WE WOULD PULL ON AN IMAGINARY WIRE ...boy did people get mad at that tom foolery...we also stle cherrys off of trees...i ran into a volleyball standard with wide open arms into my mouth and split my lips wide open in the pitch black night, a cement tire was securing it at the bottom

If my youth had been nearly that exciting, I might be a different man.
I'm intrigued... What kind of contest did the pigeon enter?
It is a wonder that you made it into adulthood! What happened to the boy that pushed your head down onto the spiket? Did you rearrange his face??? lol
You sound like you would have been a hoot in your younger days. Your a hoot now, but what a mess you were.
Bit of a tinker methinks? Looking forward to reading more.
My Grandad started to write down his childhood memories a few years before he died, I never got to rad them but my auny did and she said he got up to all sorts. Unfortunately the notebook went missing, no-one knows what happened to it. Shame, I would have loved to read it.
